Last week, we covered some claims from Dutch journalist Rick Elfrink, who believed that Johan Bakayoko was right to snub Brentford last summer.

The Bees weren’t the only interested club, as Burnley, fresh from promotion up to the Premier League after winning the Championship, also eyed up the Belgium international for a transfer.

None of it came to anything, with neither the Clarets nor Brentford getting their man, and his manager, Peter Bosz, echoed Elfrink’s comments over the weekend after the winger produced another great display for his club, relayed by Het Nieuwsblad.

He said: “There’s a reason the Premier League clubs that were interested in him wanted him so early. I think that if they want a few years, he would immediately move to a bigger clubs. That’s why it’s only a good thing that he stayed with us.

“He plays in a very good team with us. We play for trophies and that brings a certain form of pressure, meaning a form of ‘must’ rather than ‘may’. That is very good.”

Brentford were said to have gone all the way to offering €40m for the young forward, while Burnley, with Vincent Kompany at the helm, were also strongly linked.

The 20-year-old has been almost ever-present for PSV this season, scoring four goals and assisting another 12 in 22 appearances, as his side top the Eredivisie.

Meanwhile, Brentford are 11th in the Premier League after 13 games, while Burnley sit rock bottom of the table with 4 points and a goal difference of -22.

Boasting 18 goals in 33 games for Bodø/Glimt in Norway this year, Faris Moumbagna has attracted some attention from various clubs in Europe with his performances.

According to Africa Foot, Lille, Burnley and Crystal Palace are all keen on signing him in January, while Lyon are also said to be in the mix.

The last two are both owned by John Textor in some shape or form, so that could be why we are seeing the two names.

Over at Burnley, it’s explained the Clarets want to sign Moumbagna ‘as early as’ the winter transfer window to try and help them avoid relegation back down to the Championship.

However, they are facing competition from Crystal Palace, who have allegedly been after the Cameroonian for ‘a while’, but are simply waiting for the ‘right time’ to make their offer.

There’s no mention regarding the price of the striker, but with the end of the season approaching, it could be the right time for the Norwegian side to cash in on him.

We now have to wait and see whether it’s Burnley or Crystal Palace who make the first move for the 23-year-old.

On Wednesday night, Burley defender Ameen Al-Dakhil enjoyed his first start for Belgium against Serbia in a friendly.

The 21-year-old had already appeared twice in substitute appearances against Austria and Estonia last June, but this was the first time he was picked in the original XI, but there was no public.

That’s because of some torrential rains that affected the original pitch, and it was moved to the Den Dreef in Leuven, much to the chagrin of the Burnley star.

He had planned for his family to see him in Brussels, where the game was originally meant to be held, but they had to make do with watching him on TV.

The Burnley defender spoke to the media at the end of the game and said, relayed by Walfoot: “Being calm, it’s in my personality. I did my much and I’m very happy with my display. With or without a crowd, I stay the same. My family had tickets and they wanted to come see me. They had to watch me on TV, even if it isn’t the same thing.”

The Iraq born Belgium international has been very important for Vincent Kompany at Burnley since his arrival last January from Saint-Truiden.

The young player had started all the games this season up until a recent injury that he has clearly overcome, since he was able to play the full 90 minutes against Serbia.

Despite missing the last two Premier League games for Burnley through injury, Ameen Al-Dhakil was called up by Domenico Tedesco for the Belgium national team.

That will have raised a few eyebrows considering the centre-back’s recent fitness, but the Clarets didn’t stop him from joining up with his compatriots.

However, Burnley and their fans can be reassured that the situation is looking good, as Tedesco provided an update on the player’s situation on Tuesday, relayed by Voetbal Nieuws.

Speaking to the press ahead of their upcoming games against Serbia and Azerbaijan, the manager was asked about the 21-year-old’s fitness.

Tedesco replied: “With Al-Dhakil, everything is under control. He too is getting fit, we have no doubts.”

That suggests the Burnley centre-back, who had started all 10 games in the Premier League prior to his setback, is on the right track, and could play as early as Wednesday if all goes well.

A situation to be monitored ahead of the game, but it’s good news for the Clarets, and especially their fans, who might have wondered whether their defender was being rushed back into action.

On deadline day, Burnley completed the signing of Mike Trésor from KRC Genk on a loan deal with an obligation to buy if certain set conditions were met.

Het Laatste Nieuws now state the purchase option for the 24-year-old’s transfer to Turf Moor was triggered automatically after he made five appearances for Burnley this season.

This will see the Jupiler Pro League side collect €18m from the winger’s permanent sale to the Clarets.

Vincent Kompany’s side have managed only one league win this season, against Luton Town, and the Belgium international was an unused substitute during that tie.

Burnley have collected four points from 10 games and Trésor is yet to taste a league win with his new club. The player’s agent, Shallon Nkeshimana, believes Kompany’s side and Trésor must do better in the league.

“Mike is making minutes in a new competition. The results must be better, but this is a new step for him. He has only just arrived. He likes life there. He recently moved into a house in Manchester, where most of Burnley’s players live,” he told HLN.

Trésor starred for Genk last season, managing eight goals and 24 assists, and this saw him labelled the ‘assist king’ in Belgium. He hasn’t managed to replicate that form at Burnley just yet.

Burnley fans may have to give the attacker some time to adapt to his new surroundings, before he starts to shine for them.

As Burnley goalkeeper Arijanet Muric has stayed on the bench in all Premier League games this season, we today get to see some news on the possibilities for his future.

Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg writes on Twitter that even though the player is ‘focused’ on the Clarets, he wants to play more regularly.

And it turns out that he could have some opportunities away from Burnley, as there are ‘ideas’ about a loan with an option to buy in the January transfer window.

Plettenberg claims there are ‘several’ clubs who rate Muric ‘very highly’. Among them, there are the likes of Union Berlin and Sevilla.

With his contract with the Clarets expiring only in 2026, he’s currently valued by Transfermarkt at €9m, and could leave for a reasonable price.

Muric has made two appearances for Burnley this season, and both of them were in the EFL Cup. Despite being their main starter in the Championship last season, that changed with the arrival of James Trafford, who was signed from Manchester City in a €17.3m deal during the last window.

Brighton & Hove Albion were reportedly not able to sign Sacha Boey in the last window and continue to have him on their agenda. Manchester United and Burnley have joined the Seagulls in keeping tabs on the Galatasaray player.

That’s according to Fotospor, who state the Premier League trio want to take a closer look at the right-back.

Galatasaray will face Beşiktaş in their derby clash later today and it’s claimed Manchester United, Burnley and Brighton will have scouts in attendance to watch Boey live in action.

The 23-year-old has scored one goal from 16 games this season and his displays have seen him attract attention from several clubs.

At the same time, France manager Didier Deschamps admitted earlier this month Boey could receive a national team call-up in the future.

Manchester United, Burnley and Brighton scouts could look at other players during their trip to Istanbul but the report says Boey is the ‘favourite name’ for them.

Erik ten Hag and his side have already seen the Frenchman closely, when he played the full 90 minutes in Galatasaray’s 3-2 win at Old Trafford.

Apart from the English clubs, Fotospor state scouts from unnamed Spanish, French and Italian clubs will also follow the fullback against Beşiktaş.

Burnley winger Luca Koleosho is set to miss out on Italy’s next U-21 game, according to local reports.

Sport Mediaset writes that due to a ‘flu syndrome’, the player hasn’t even arrived at the national team camp.

The Burnley player is then expected to be unavailable for the match against Norway, which is only taking place next Tuesday.

Even though that sounds like enough time to recover from a virus, several outlets now take his absence as a sign that he’s missing out on that match.

Following a €3m move from Espanyol this summer, Koleosho took part in all of Burnley’s games in the Premier League this season, having one goal in eight appearances so far.

His international career has been a little confusing, as he’s been through the youth ranks of Italy, United States and Canada in the last few years.

He even stayed on the bench in a couple of friendlies that Canada played last year, but seems to have been attracted by the chance to play for Italy’s U-21. So it’s unlucky that he got the flu right before that opportunity.

On deadline day, Burnley signed Mike Trésor from Genk on a loan deal with an obligation to buy if certain set conditions are met.

The winger arrived at Turf Moor after managing eight goals and 24 assists from 42 games for Genk last season, and his fine form for them had caught the attention of several clubs across Europe.

That’s at least what the Burnley summer signing’s agent, Sacha Yakovenko, said during an interview with La Dernière Heure.

Back in June, claims from Belgium had stated Burnley manager Vincent Kompany was keen on signing the 24-year-old, and this is now confirmed by the player’s representative.

“The biggest clubs in Italy wanted him, but they no longer want to pay astronomical sums after the failure of De Ketelaere at Milan. Spain [Spanish clubs] also wanted Trésor, but it was Kompany who pushed the hardest and got him,” he said.

AC Milan reportedly invested €35m to sign Charles De Ketelaere from Club Brugge in 2022 and he struggled in his debut season at the San Siro. This convinced the Serie A side to allow him to join Atalanta on a loan deal with an option to buy in the last window.

Trésor has made three appearances for Burnley and is yet to score a goal or register an assist for his new club.

Burnley youngster Wilson Odobert ‘should be on’ Ajax’s list of options to reinforce their right-wing position in January, but a deal seems hard to get done.

That’s according to MSN, who list the player among a group of eight players that the Dutch club should be looking at after failing to add in that position in the summer.

They explain that the right-wing position remains a weak one for Ajax, who desperately need an addition in that area moving forwards.

MSN have been looking at various options via their data and believe Burnley youngster Odobert would ‘one of the best options’ for the Dutch club. He, though, ‘seems unfeasible in advance’.

They explain that after Burnley paid explain that after Burnley paid €11m for the player last summer, the belief is that they will give him time to develop.

At the moment he is having to do with ‘sparing raids and opportunities’ in the League Cup but that doesn’t mean his ‘enormous potential’ hasn’t been noted at Turf Moor.

With a contract until 2028 they’re betting on him long-term and Burnley manager Vincent Kompany sees him as a ‘future hero’ after keeping an eye on him for some time.

MSN believe a deal for Ajax ‘would have been feasible’ last summer but now it seems too late to get him given he could now be handed a chance in the Premier League.

That could make Ajax look like a step back, particularly given their current crisis, but the player should certainly be on their list, nonetheless.
