Starting in the summer, the idea that Liverpool could make a move for Patrick Dorgu has grown considerably over the past few months.

A report in October suggested that a transfer could take place as early as January, although that has now been ruled out by Stefano Trinchera, Lecce’s director of football.

Speaking to Pianeta Lecce, the transfer man for the Serie A side was asked about the Liverpool target, and makes it clear that any deal will happen at the earliest next summer.

He said: “Dorgu is making people talk about him and the more times passes, the more his value increases. In January, he will stay with us. It’s too early to make considerations about the future, but Dorgu is now in the mouths of great European clubs. I won’t talk about the valuation of a boy who is growing day by day.”

It’s worth pointing out that despite the interest from Liverpool, who have been the most consistently linked with the left-back, that isn’t his favourite destination.

The 19-year-old recently made it clear that if he had a choice of a team to join, it would be Chelsea, who have long been his dream club.

Whether that ever materialises remains to be seen, and it will be up to Liverpool to convince him otherwise if and when the times comes.

Dorgu has played a fair bit for Lecce this season despite his young age, and produce a good display in the recent 2-2 draw against AC Milan.
