Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has found a role for Giovani Lo Celso in his squad, and there appears no reason to let the Argentine leave in the January window.

At previous times the situation had seemed a little different, but with Postecoglou now being very aware how much cover he’ll need for injuries, and how helpful Lo Celso can be generally, an exit just wouldn’t make a lot of sense.

That slant, though, isn’t one being taken by the Catalan media.

Monday’s edition of Sport reports the ‘pressure’ is building on Xavi Hernandez to sign Lo Celso in the January market. Gavi is out injured for around nine months, and it’s though Lo Celso could help Barcelona’s attack become less predictable.

However, Barcelona would want the Argentina international on a loan basis, and it’s not clear why this would be in any way attractive to Tottenham.

Lo Celso may well be tempted by a move to Barcelona, many players are, but there’d surely have to be some kind of mutiny at Spurs from the player to push any move through.

And even then… it feels ambitious.

On Friday, we relayed news from Belgium that Tottenham Hotspur have contacted Royale Union Saint-Gilloise about signing Koki Machida. It was also stated the Jupiler Pro League side have put a €15m price tag on the defender.

This is backed up by L’Avenir, who provide more updates on Spurs and the Belgian club’s plan for the 26-year-old.

Tottenham are looking to strengthen their defence in the winter market and the 26-year-old is on their agenda.

Earlier this week, Union Saint-Gilloise CEO Philippe Bormans said: “Reinforcement in the winter transfer window will only be necessary if there is a departure.”

Bormans is aware some of his players are attracting interest and the 26-year-old is among them.

It’s claimed Tottenham’s interest in the Japan international is ‘very real’. They haven’t sent an official offer yet but have discussed with Union Saint-Gilloise that they would like to acquire the defender in January.

Union Saint-Gilloise don’t want to lose Machida in the next window. At the same time, the need to balance their finances means they cannot ‘say no to any offer’. L’Avenir add the Belgian club would be willing to let go of their star for €15m.

The ideal scenario would be to sell in January and then get him back on loan until the end of this season.

Machida had earlier stated his current employer can help him take the next step in his career. Tottenham can help him fulfil it as L’Avenir say they would ‘obviously be a great destination’.

If he were to leave, Union Saint-Gilloise would invest the funds from his sale in signing a new centre-back.

FC Volendam chairman Jaap Veerman has revealed they were saved by Micky van de Ven’s move to Tottenham this summer.

The chairman has been speaking publicly in comments relayed by RTL Nieuws amid a growing crisis at the club that has seen the former board dismissed for putting the club in danger.

Veerman is currently president of the supervisory board at the Dutch side following the resignation of Jan Smit and other board members, who were dismissed because they endangered the future of the club.

The supervisory board have reported that those formerly in change had left the club with a negative equity of €3m on a budget of €11m, an unsustainable situation for a club of their size.

That’s led to action and the dismissal of the board, with potential sales on the way to help balance the books, even though Veerman has insisted that will not necessarily be the case.

Instead, he’s revealed the club are now reliant on transfers and potential proceeds from former players, with Van de Ven’s move to Tottenham in the summer having already saved them from the brink.

“We had to take action, otherwise the company judge could blame me for that,” he said.

“We are now betting on transfers and proceeds from former players of ours who go to another club. We were saved last summer because Micky van de Ven moved from VFL Wolfsburg to Tottenham Hotspur for €40m.

“We would have received 15% there but unfortunately, we agreed to 12.5%. But that saved us. I don’t see that happening every year.”

Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise have put a ‘hefty price tag’ on Tottenham target Koki Machida as they look to avoid losing him in the January transfer window.

That’s according to Het Nieuwsblad, who say Tottenham have already asked about the defender’s circumstances a few weeks ago.

The newspaper reports that Spurs are keen on Machida, who they see as a possible replacement for Micky van de Ven, who is out injured and has been sorely missed by Ange Postecoglou’s side.

They need a replacement and Machida is a potential option in the January transfer window, with Het Nieuwsblad and several reports over the last few weeks naming him as a target.

Union SG don’t want to lose a key player midway through the campaign, though, and have made it clear that Tottenham ‘will have to dig quite deep’ to get him out of Belgium.

They want €15m for Machida, a figure which is considered ‘hefty’ for a 26-year-old spending his first season in Europe.

The fact that he is a new signing at the Belgium club, tied down to a deal until 2026 and a key player all mean Union SG have no intention of letting him go easily.

Thus, it remains to be seen how highly Tottenham think about him, and whether they will match that figure, with no official offer on the table as yet.

Pierre-Emile Højbjerg ‘can still leave’ Tottenham in the January transfer window, even after the injury to Rodrigo Bentancur.

That’s according to TuttoMercatoWeb, who say Juventus ‘continue to work’ on convincing Daniel Levy to let him leave on a loan.

Højbjerg has been heavily linked with a move away from Tottenham in the winter window after barely featuring under Ange Postecoglou in the first half of the season.

Several clubs in Europe are believed to be eyeing up a move, including Juventus, who need midfield reinforcements after losing Paul Pogba and Nicolo Fagioli to long-term bans.

However, reports over the last week have indicated that a sale has been ruled out after the unfortunate injury to Rodrigo Bentancur against Aston Villa threatened to leave Tottenham short int the coming months, particularly when players leave for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Injuries and suspensions have seen Højbjerg return of late too, further strengthening the idea that he won’t be leaving in January.

TMW say otherwise, though, and argue that he ‘can still leave’ in the winter window but Tottenham won’t sanction a loan deal and are only interested in a permanent exit.

That’s something Juventus are yet to commit to and so they are simply remaining ‘attentive to developments’ at this point, perhaps hoping to convince Levy to change his mind.

Højbjerg is one of several options they are looking at as they plan for January, with no firm decision made on any as yet.

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández has labelled Tottenham’s Cristian Romero ‘crazy’, despite appreciating the defender’s support on the pitch when with Argentina.

AS cover comments from the midfielder today, who has been remembering Argentina’s World Cup victory almost a year ago.

The Albiceleste won the tournament in Qatar last year after one of the best World Cup finals of all time saw them win on penalties after a scintillating 3-3 draw with France.

That saw he and his teammates completely fail to control France star Kylian Mbappe, who bagged a hattrick of goals in the game, including a 118th minute penalty to draw his side level in added time.

The game proved to be a controversial one, to say the least, thanks to some of the actions of the Argentina squad during it.

One that stands out is Tottenham defender quite literally screaming and celebrating in Mbappe’s face as he celebrated one of his side’s goals.

He later revealed he had done so after the Chelsea midfielder had clashed with the PSG star earlier in the game, seeing it as an ideal opportunity to get revenge for what had been said. Fernández appreciates that, even if he does think the Tottenham man is a little bit crazy.

“I remember what he told me, things about the game,” the Chelsea man told Star+, relayed by AS.

“There were plays that we celebrated, like some divided ones, and he (Mbappe) made signs to us as if he was going to kill us. He told us that they were going to win the final.

“He got into it with me, I don’t know why. And well, I have a soldier who defends me. Cuti is crazy, ha ha ha. When we scored the goal, he started celebrating it in his face.”

Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has revealed the ‘positive shock’ he received when joining the club in the summer, while praising the club’s fans for the support they’ve shown him so far.

The Italian has been speaking to Sky Sports in Italy ahead of Tottenham’s clash with Manchester City this weekend.

The goalkeeper has established himself as the number one since joining from Empoli in the summer, replacing Hugo Lloris, who had been expected to leave the club.

He’s now the undisputed starter under Ange Postecoglou and has earned that place too, with a series of impressive performances and stunning individual saves as Tottenham have impressed at the start of the season.

While he’s been starring and earning the plaudits, there’s one thing about the club that left him particularly impressed, and that’s New White Hart Lane.

Tottenham have been solid at home this season, establishing their stadium as a tough place to go to once again and currently joint sixth in the home form table alongside Brighton and Manchester United.

They’ve been boosted by a revitalised Spurs support, who have fully embraced life under Postecoglou and backed their team, something that hasn’t gone unnoticed by Vicario.

“I will always be grateful to that that Empoli and the Castellani stadium have left me in these two years, have allowed me to live my English dream,” he said.

“In the transposition to two completely different contexts, and to two completely different clubs. The positive shock I had on the first day I joined entered the new White Hart Lane, it was incredible.

“Every time we are lucky enough to play at home the emotions are never the same, there is always something to go and get and something to take away.”

Surprisingly starting the game against Manchester United midweek, Tottenham loanee Tanguy Ndombele didn’t cover himself in glory.

With his team 3-1 down, he was taken off in the 60th minute, which led to him being whistled off the pitch, leading his manager, Okan Buruk, to jump to his defence after the game, which ended 3-3.

However, that hasn’t stopped the Turkish press from pushing more stories about the Tottenham man potentially returning to Spurs, like Milliyet on Friday.

The outlet have a lengthy article about who impressed and didn’t in the Manchester United game, with Ndombele falling into the latter.

They explain that the Tottenham loanee ‘completely exhausted his credit’ in the game against the Premier League side, and there is a strong belief that the €15m or so purchase option in his loan ‘will not be used’.

It’s then added that ‘according to the report of the technical committee’ at Galatasaray, those in charge ‘may terminate’ the loan in January, and Sergio Oliveira will now get more chances in midfield over the Frenchman.

There is also a bit of confusion in the article, as Milliyet attribute some quotes to new Tottenham director Johan Lange, about the loan not being able to be terminated, when in fact they were from a journalist from the Athletic during a Q&A article posted back in early November.

In short, the belief from England is that Ndombele cannot return to Tottenham in January, while it appears that information from Turkey suggests Galatasaray will certainly give it a go.

For now, what is clear is that the midfielder’s future is up in the air after his latest performance.

Former Argentina forward Diego Milito has revealed he turned down an opportunity to join Tottenham Hotspur.

The 44-year-old arrived in Europe for the first time when Genoa signed him from Racing Club in 2003. He left them for Real Zaragoza in 2005 before returning to the Serie A side three years later.

Prior to his second spell at Genoa, Milito was approached by Tottenham. He talked about his decision to reject the north London club during DAZN’s Un’altra storia, relayed by TuttoMercatoWeb.

“Those weeks were very difficult because I almost had an agreement with an English team, the president of Real Zaragoza had closed but I wasn’t happy. I don’t know why. It was Tottenham who wanted me and Ardiles, Julio Ricardo Villa, also liked me,” he said.

The South American has further explained that a call from Genoa president Enrico Preziosi convinced him to pick them over the Premier League side.

“The day before Preziosi called me and my wife told me that my face had changed. I felt that I had to return to Genoa. I have always chosen with my heart and for this reason I told myself that I had to return,” Milito explained.

“There was one day left until the end of the market. I called the president of Zaragoza and told him that I wanted to go to Genoa, because I knew the city and the club.”

Milito’s decision to reject Tottenham for Genoa paid off because it helped him get a move to Inter Milan in 2009.

He was an integral part of the Nerazzurri’s treble winning squad in the 2009/10 season, where he scored a brace in the Champions League final win over Bayern Munich.

Tottenham could a €2m discount on Juventus youngster Samuel Illing-Junior, should they decide to move for him in the January transfer window.

That’s according to Calciomercato, who cover the rising interest in the winger today and how Spurs are ‘ready to bet on’ a move for him.

The website explains that Illing-Junior continues to find himself out of the picture at Juventus this season, with the performances of other players in his position meaning he’s not particularly needed by Max Allegri.

He’s gone from being a rising star to last choice for the Italian manager and that’s led him and his agency to looking around and considering their plans.

That agency, CAA Base, have strong roots in England and so that appears to be the ‘most accredited destination’ for the England U-21 international.

Tottenham are one of the clubs known to have an interest in him and have been credited as such in recent weeks, with numerous reports indicating they may be looking at him in January.

Indeed, it was claimed today that they were increasingly confident of getting him and not scared of paying what was required.

Well, that figure may be lower than first though as CM report that his valuation could drop ‘by a few million’ to around €18m in total.

According to them ,Tottenham’s interest is longstanding as they were ‘concrete’ in the summer and ‘tested the waters’ over a €20m deal.

Now he’s available for a little less, with it claimed that ‘London calls’ and Juventus are ready to respond and sanction a sale that could provide them with money they need to finance a major move in midfield and Tottenham with ‘yet another coup’ from Serie A.
