Prior to West Ham United’s Europa League clash against FK TSC tonight, Emerson Palmieri had a word with the Brazilian media.

The fullback, who joined West Ham in the summer of 2022, claimed it was an easy decision for him to sign for the Hammers, as he wanted to get back to the Premier League.

“The motivation to return to the Premier League was very clear because it’s the best league in the world, a fascinating competition,” Emerson Palmieri told ESPN Brasil.

“When I heard about the interest I didn’t think twice. And, of course, coming to a club the size of West Ham was very rewarding for me.”

Palmieri also talked about West Ham’s current campaign in the Premier League, where they’re currently in 9th place. He claims to believe that they’re doing well and can fight for a spot in continental tournaments once again this year.

“Given the quality of our squad, we can fight for a place in a European competition. I think we have those qualities and I believe we can have a very good Premier League season, much better than last year.”

Palmieri was born in Brazil and started his career at Santos. He played for Palermo and AS Roma in Italy until getting bought by Chelsea in 2018.

By the end of his time with the Blues, he spent a season on loan at Lyon, and in the summer of 2022, finally had the chance to get back to the Premier League, as West Ham found a deal to buy sign for €15.4m.

Palmieri has 17 appearances for the Hammers this season, and his contract with the club runs until 2026, with an option for an extra year.

Having sold Declan Rice this summer to Arsenal, West Ham United did sign Edson Alvarez to try and compensate for the gap left by the England international’s exit.

The Mexico international has made a number of appearances for the Hammers since his arrival, but that doesn’t mean the Premier League club will stop their recruiting there.

According to Corriere dello Sport, West Ham are interested in Ardon Jashari, a 21-year-old defensive midfielder currently playing for FC Luzern in Switzerland.

This comes as part of an article recalling that he once came close to a move to Serie A, as he ‘continues to be one of Switzerland’s most promising midfielders’.

They add that West Ham and Villarreal are ‘courting him’, pointing out that Murat Yakin, the national team manager, has ‘already tried him out’ for the national team.

Describing the young player, they praise his ability to ‘recover a lot of balls’, which he is then able to either deliver to the person next to him or ping forward with precision to set up an attacking move.

There’s a reason why he has been given the armband by his manager at such a young age for some recent games, and that’s why West Ham clearly like what they see.

As for the price? That’s the enticing part since he could cost a mere €6m. One to keep an eye on.

It’s the Portuguese media who today has a story about West Ham United’s interest in FC Porto full-back Zaidu Sanusi.

Following articles from the English press at the weekend, outlet O Jogo now shows up with their version of the situation.

They start by highlighting that West Ham are back to being interested in Zaidu regardless of his physical state, as he has missed most of the season so far and only has six appearances to his name.

The Portuguese outlet then points out that the Hammers would only go for the signing in the next summer.

It’s said that with Aaron Cresswell and Emerson Palmieri both available, West Ham have no need to sign a left-back in the winter, and would leave an attempt for the end of the season.

It’s worth pointing out that Cresswell’s contract with the London side expires in June, so it does make sense that the Hammers are already looking at the market for players of that position to potentially replace the 33-year-old.

Zaidu is currently valued by Transfermarkt at €6m. He has a contract with Porto until 2027 and is protected by a €50m release clause.

Having signed Edson Álvarez and Mohammed Kudus from Ajax in the last window, West Ham United have turned their attention again towards the Eredivisie side, to bolster their squad.

De Telegraaf, relayed by Voetbal Zone, state the Hammers are keen on Steven Bergwijn.

Journalist Mike Verweij told De Telegraaf podcast Kick-Off that West Ham have informed the 26-year-old’s camp about their interest in him, but they haven’t yet contacted the Dutch club for a potential deal.

The Netherlands international spent over two years at Tottenham Hotspur before joining Ajax in 2022. The forward has a contract until 2027 and the Europa Conference League winners are trying to bring him back to London.

ESPN NL asked the winger about the latest claims of West Ham’s interest in him. He said, as quoted by Voetbal Zone: “I haven’t heard anything about it myself, I think you should contact my agent.”

“In football you should never exclude anything. But my focus is now completely on Ajax and everyone here knows that. I am happy here and have my family here too. That is the most important thing.”

Ajax manager John van ‘t Schip remains hopeful to retain the Dutchman until the end of this season. At the same time, he’s also aware the Amsterdam club could part ways with him in January if West Ham or another club were to put a lot of money on the table.

“I haven’t heard anything about it. It’s probably the case. But when it really becomes concrete, I will hear about it,” Van ‘t Schip explained.

“I assume that Steven will stay with us, certainly until the end of the season. And if a huge offer comes in, you know how it works. But I would prefer if he stays.”

This could please David Moyes’ side, if they have a firm desire in securing the attacker’s services in the winter market.

Operating mainly on the left wing, Bergwijn has managed six goals and three assists from 18 games this season.

West Ham and Crystal Palace have been handed a huge blow in their potential pursuit of RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner, as he’s not interested in a move to either club.

That’s according to BILD, who say the German is not interested in joining either side at this moment in time.

Werner has found himself out of the picture at Leipzig this season, with just eight appearances in the Bundesliga so far and featuring in just 21% of the available minutes.

He no longer appears to be a part of their plans moving forward and that has led to speculation he will be moved on in the January transfer window, even if it was on loan to get regular playing time ahead of the European Championship in the summer.

A report earlier this week stated West Ham and Crystal Palace were in the picture for a possible deal and even insisted that he would be open to the idea, despite his disappointing spell at Chelsea.

BILD state the opposite though, reporting that while West Ham and Crystal Palace are said to have expressed interest, and could pay the striker’s salary of €10m a year, something other Bundesliga sides cannot, they ‘currently play no role’ in Werner’s thinking.

In other words, it appears that even if the interest is there and is serious, Werner isn’t currently thinking about exploring those options.

Whether that’s because he wants a move elsewhere or simply isn’t keen isn’t made clear, but for now it seems the Premier League duo would be best advised turning their attention elsewhere.

West Ham United have joined a host of clubs in the race for Shakhtar Donetsk’s Georgiy Sudakov, according to Tutto Juve.

The 21-year-old joined the Ukrainian club’s academy in 2017 and was promoted to their first team in 2020. Operating mainly as an attacking midfielder and at times in the middle of the pitch, he has scored 13 goals and registered 13 assists from 81 games.

His potential and development has seen several clubs take notice and the list includes West Ham and Juventus.

It’s said the Hammers want to sign the young star, but they and the Serie A side aren’t the only clubs chasing him.

The report states Barcelona, Bayern Munich and a few other Premier League sides are also in the mix.

Despite this, the Old Lady seem to be wary about David Moyes’ side as they ‘want to steal’ the Ukraine international from them. To do that, the report states the English club could potentially offer a fee around €35m.

Sudakov has a deal until 2028, but it’s not clear if the reported €35m fee would be enough to convince Shakhtar to part ways with him.

Brighton & Hove Albion, West Ham United and Fulham all have Torino’s Adrien Tameze on their transfer agenda.

That’s according to Tutto Atalanta, who explain that the 29-year-old has been subjected to sirens from the Premier League trio.

He joined the Serie A side from Hellas Verona in the summer window and has been used as a holding midfielder and as a centre-back.

The former Atalanta man has two assists from 12 games this season, and his versatility and form have pleased Brighton, West Ham and Fulham.

It’s said the three English clubs are showing a ‘strong interest’ in Tameze and see him as an ‘ideal player’ for the Premier League, both from physicality and tactical point of view.

The Turin club paid €2.8m to secure the Frenchman’s services and handed him a contract until 2026.

The report states his meteoric rise has seen his valuation grow exponentially, and is currently valued in excess of €10m by Torino president Urbano Cairo.

Although Tutto Atalanta state Brighton, West Ham and Fulham are keen to sign Tameze, they make no mention if these clubs are looking at him for January or next summer.

West Ham United star Tomáš Souček has been hailed in his homeland after leading Czech Republic to the European Championships next summer.

Idnes cover the midfielder today and lavish him with praise, particularly after he admitted he “wanted to die” on the field to ensure his country headed to Germany.

The newspaper says the West Ham man doesn’t ‘give off real football beauty’ but is ‘diligent, stubborn, jumps for shots, fights clouds of duels and would leave his soul on the field’.

That’s something he showed during this international break. On Friday he was kicked in the face by Poland’s Jan Bednarek and despite that being a heavy blow and leaving him visibly bloodied, he was back on Monday and competing once more.

“My teammates needed me to stay on the field,” he recounted.

“I would terribly blame myself for the failure, because the Czech Republic has never failed to participate in the Euros. That’s why I wanted to die on the field. Maybe even literally.”

The fact that the Czechs found themselves in such a situation was a sign that their ‘football quality has fallen to average’ and they say Souček is proof of that.

But that’s not an insult. On the contrary, they see the fact he fought his way up to the Premier League and the fact he never gave up on that dream, as a quality that his country ‘needs to rely on’.

It now remains to be seen who the country hire as their new manager and what he decides to do moving forwards but for Idnes one thing is clear, it has to be built around Souček, who embodies ‘strength, hard work, honesty and cohesion’. Big praise for the West Ham man indeed.

Czech Republic will make a decision about West Ham United defender Vladimir Coufal once they have appointed a new manager ahead of the European Championships next summer.

That’s according to Idnes, who say the country’s executive committee decided to deal with the future of him and his fellow teammates after appointing a replacement for Jaroslav Šilhavý.

The 62-year-old announced recently that he is stepping down from his role at Czech boss after European qualifying, despite he and his country having qualified for the tournament in Germany next summer.

He explained he decided to do so partly due to a recent incident in the squad that saw Coufal, and two teammates sent home from international duty.

The trio were punished for having headed out to a nightclub and partying until the early hours without the permission of the manager and his team.

They were subsequently sent home and forced to watch as their country qualified for the tournament without them, with Coufal having since apologised for the incident and insisted he intends to bounce back and earn back the respect of his nation.

Idnes, though, report his international future won’t be made any time soon. According to them the country’s executive committee held an extraordinary meeting on Monday regarding their future plans.

They decided to deal with the future of the West Ham man and his two teammates after they have appointed Šilhavý’ s successor.

The new coach will be handed the ‘main say’ on who he wants in the team and whether they will be a part of the group moving forwards.

However, the chairman of the FAČR, Petr Fousek, has emphasised that the executive committee ‘definitely did not exclude’ any of the player’s from the national team in the future, which is positive news for the West Ham defender.

West Ham United defender Vladimir Coufal has admitted he is deeply sorry for the incident which saw him kicked of Czech Republic’s international squad.

Idnes cover comments from the defender today, who has publically apologised for the incident and insisted he will be doing his utmost to prove his doubters wrong and return in future.

Coufal was one of three players kicked out of Czech Republic’s squad this week following an unsanctioned visit to a night club in Olomouc.

They elected to visit the night club alongside Tomáš Neumann, a member of the FAČR executive committee, partying until the early hours despite their upcoming games.

The incident naturally led to plenty of criticism and even led to manager Jaroslav Šilhavý deciding to quit his role, despite having qualified for the tournament next summer.

Coufal, alongside Jakub Brabec and Jan Kuchta were sent home, with the player linking up with West Ham early and forced to watch on from home as his country qualified for Euro 2024 in his absence with a 3-0 win over Moldova in their final game of qualifying.

He was delighted to see that happen despite not being able to be a part of it and Idnes now report he has admitted to his mistake, sharing his disappointment in himself at how matters had transpired.

“I am very happy that the Czech national team advanced to Euro 2024 yesterday,” they report the West Ham man saying.

“I offer my hearty congratulations to everyone who participated in this. I made a huge mistake on Saturday, which I will regret for the rest of my life.

“For the first time in my life, I violated my own principles, which I believed in and strictly followed throughout my career. I know I was somewhere two days before the game where I had no business being.

“I have always relied on professional behaviour, which I have now violated. With this stupid mistake, I deprived myself of a wonderful experience with the team, which the promotion to the Euros undoubtedly is. Everyone who knows me knows that this is the highest punishment for me.

“I regret it all the more because I am a representative and a role model for many children, which has always been an honour for me. I appreciated it and I will do everything possible to make it so again in the future.

“I know I’ve let down a lot of people I care about, that’s the worst feeling for me. I have disappointed myself and my principles and the life path that I have been following for a very long time.”
